Questions

What are the benefits of going to a small college?

There are so many benefits. A lot of my friends chose to go to large universities and found that often times their professors didn’t even teach the class. Here at CMC professors are here because they want to help students, not so they can do research or build a reputation. The small class size is a great way to learn on a personal level and makes it easier to connect with other students.

Is Steamboat a fun town to live in?

Yes! I am originally from a city and was uncertain about the small mountain town life but have fallen in love with it. Although I do miss shopping malls and large concert venues on occasion the connection with wilderness out here is irreplaceable.

What are the best classes to take?

Obviously classes will vary with different majors but if you have the chance to take outdoor education electives do it! They are a great way to get out doors, meet new people and learn real life skills in the process.

Do I have to live in the dorms the first year?

Yes, under most circumstances it is mandatory you spend your first year living in the dorms. Not only does it ensure academic success, it’s also a great way to meet new people.

Is there parking for first year students?

Yes. Although second year students who remain in the dorms get the prime spots, first years are put in the lottery for the remaining upper lot parking spots. But don’t worry if you aren’t picked. There is an overflow lot so all students with vehicles can park worry free.

Will I have time to ski/snowboard?

It’s fairly easy to schedule classes so you have at least one weekday off during the winter season. Not to mention classes typically don’t run all day. You could be out by noon or take night classes and ski all day.
